On Friday, fifth graders continued our exploration of America before colonization. We already knew that America was not "discovered," that people had been here for hundreds of years before Columbus landed.
We discussed why, even though he claimed land that wasn't his, took slaves, and brought diseases, that we celebrate his contributions to the colonization of the Americas.
